AirPlate and HHLA Sky Collaborate in Denmark's First U-Space Demonstration

AirPlate and HHLA Sky GmbH successfully executed Denmark's first U-Space demonstration as part of the GENIUS consortium. During a live demonstration, five drones operated simultaneously in shared airspace, coordinated through HHLA Sky’s UTM system. AirPlate played a crucial role in ensuring precise and reliable tracking within the designated U-Space area (marked in blue on the image).

Regulation overview

To achieve this, each drone was equipped with the AirPlate Remote ID Pro, which transmits both Network and Direct Remote Identification:

  • Network Remote ID sent real-time tracking data directly to HHLA Sky's UTM platform via the cellular network.
  • Direct Remote ID was detected by AirPlate’s Drone Scanner, installed on the ground, which relayed WiFi and Bluetooth signals to HHLA Sky’s system over the Internet.
This dual-tracking approach ensured reliable, real-time monitoring, providing situational awareness and compliance with U-Space e-identification and tracking services.
This project represents a major step toward the safe integration of drones into U-Space, paving the way for enhanced airspace management, improved safety, and greater operational efficiency in future drone operations.
